In 2014, my children and I were evicted from our home when I lost my job. My family refused to help us, so we stayed with anyone that would take us into their homes. We moved around nine times. One of those moves included living in a homeless shelter. Living in the shelter, we experienced unfair treatment, bedbug bites, starvation, embarrassment, despair, and loneliness, to name a few. I sat down one day at the shelter and began planning The Borges Family Way. I decided that no single parent and their children would ever have to feel or experience what my children and I felt and experienced.

Established in 2016, The Borges Family Way is a 501c3 non-profit organization that serves low-income single parents in the Danville, Virginia area. We are working to provide access, resources, and opportunities in low-income communities in the areas of housing, education, daycare, and transportation. We are focused on single parents in Danville City who are facing the greatest barriers.

We at The Borges Family Way believe that single parents should have the opportunity to create a vibrant future for themselves and their children. When families are able to support themselves, our community is stronger.
